Purpose-built house to take short breaks

A new service providing short breaks for people with a disability is now open for business.

At Station Court in Duns, the newly built two-bedroom house is available for short breaks to anyone living in the Borders who has been assessed as eligible by Social Work Services.

Guests are able to enjoy a break on their own or they can use the extra bedroom for family, friends or a Direct Payment/Independent Living Fund employee.

The accommodation has been purpose-built to be fully accessible, with a range of aids including a level access shower and tracking hoist from bedroom to bathroom, a profiling bed, hoist and stand aid. As it’s near the existing Station Court complex, guests can use other services from on-site provider, Community Integrated Care.

The new service was officially opened by Councillor Frances Renton, Executive Member for Social Work. She said: “Station Court has already made a big contribution to Duns, providing attractive, award-winning housing for people who previously lived in institutional care. This new house will enable others on a short breaks basis to experience this quality housing.”
