Erin's message for Santa Claus

As Christmas draws nearer, children across the land will be writing their Christmas wish lists for Santa.

When they receive their card back from Santa, it will be the design of local school pupil, Erin Stoddart, 6, from Tweedbank Primary School that they will see on the front of the card.

Erin won Royal Mail’s competition to design a card for Santa to reply to the thousands of letters he receives in the run up to Christmas.

Erin, who painted a colourful picture of Santa flying through the sky on his sleigh, was presented with a huge version of her winning design, a watercolour set and colouring books. Her design has now been made into more than 250,000 cards and will be rolled out to children across the UK as part of the Royal Mail’s Santamail scheme.

Gary Watson, Delivery and Collection Manager for Royal Mail in the Borders said: “The response from the schools has been fantastic and we received more than 300 amazing entries from the Borders.

“It was very difficult to pick awinner but Erin’s painting has great colours – it makes you want to join Santa on his sleigh as he delivers all the presents. Erin has a fantastic talent. “I would also like to say thank you to everyone who took part.”

The competition was run in the Borders as part of Royal Mail’s Santamail scheme, which aims to work with local schools to encourage pupils to write their requests as a class as part of the curriculum in school. They are then processedlocally – rather than in the Royal Mail depot in Belfast – and cards from Santa are distributed in school from local postal workers.

Schools can contact Gary Watson at Kelso delivery office if they want to organise a Santamail pick-up – Telephone 01573 22 84 08 or email gary.watson@royalmail.com
